Mandatory training by International Vessel Operators Dangerous Goods Association (IVODGA/VOHMA)
The International Vessel Operators Dangerous Goods Association, Inc. formerly The International Vessel Operators Hazardous Materials Association, Inc. (VOHMA)
The International Vessel Operators Dangerous Goods Association (IVODGA) is an international organization comprised of representatives of the ocean common carriers of the world, operating under the flags of several nations, dedicated to improving the understanding and uniform application of rules and regulations governing maritime Hazardous Materials – Dangerous Goods Transportation, including the IMDG Code. Collectively, IVODGA members are responsible for the safe transportation of over 85% of the ocean borne container traffic in the US trades.
IVODGA’s primary focus is to foster the safe handling of hazardous materials, as well as to offer the expertise of the ocean carriers in forging regulatory development. IVODGA is an active participant and enjoys consultative status at the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and the UN Committee of Experts (UNCOE) on the Transport of Dangerous Goods. IVODGA actively comments on proposed regulations and is in frequent contact with the Department of Transportation’s Pipeline Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) and the US Coast Guard.
Three Day IMDG Course – International Maritime Dangerous Goods – Amendment 35-10
A comprehensive three day hazardous material/dangerous goods training program that provides students with a working knowledge of the regulations in the International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code (IMDG) which govern the transportation of dangerous goods by water both domestically and internationally. Training subjects include packaging, marking, labeling, documenting, handling, container packing, consolidating, shipping, transporting, forwarding or otherwise engaging in commerce, within the scope of the IMDG Code. Such activities include shipments intended solely for transportation by ship and those which involve intermodal transportation, any portion of which is by the water mode. Experienced professionals will find the course to be an excellent resource for preparing their own in-house programs. Hands-on work projects are used throughout the program to enhance the practical application of course material. The course includes a student workbook, a written examination and a certificate of completion for those who successfully complete the course.
The IMDG programs will include Amendment 35-10 which is authorized for use as of January 1, 2011 and will become mandatory January 1, 2012.
